Launch of the RADiUS Project - Agroecology Network to promote sustainable food systems in West and Central Africa

CORAF and its partners will officially launch the Réseau en Agroécologie pour promouvoir la durabilité des systèmes alimentaires en Afrique de l'Ouest et du Centre (RADiUS) project on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at an official ceremony at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD) in Dakar, Senegal.

 

The event will bring together researchers, policy-makers, farmers' organizations and technical and financial partners. The RADiUS project aims to support the agroecological transition of farms in order to strengthen economic, food and nutritional security in West and Central Africa. This initiative, led by CORAF in partnership with several academic and research institutions, aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices in the face of climatic and environmental challenges.

The strategic partners involved in implementing the RADiUS project include :

  • Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) of Senegal
  • Joseph Ki-Zerbo University (UJKZ), Burkina Faso
  • Félix Houphouët-Boigny University (UFHB), Côte d'Ivoire
  • Cameroon's Agricultural Research Institute for Development (IRAD)
  • Cotton Research Institute (IRC)
  • CIRAD (Centre de Coopération Internationale en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement)
  • Catholic Relief Services (CRS)

The RADiUS project represents a unique opportunity to strengthen research and innovation in agroecology while promoting more resilient agriculture in the face of climate challenges."

The RADiUS project aims to :

  • Massive adoption of agroecological practices in target countries;
  • Improving soil health and natural resource management;
  • Enhancing the value of agricultural data and the emergence of local entrepreneurial initiatives;
  • Setting up monitoring and evaluation tools to measure the impact of agricultural innovations.

This regional initiative, supported by the European Union's DeSIRA+ program, aims to support the agroecological transition of agricultural systems in five countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal.
