ITRAD ready to boost agricultural production with proven technologies and innovations

[N'Djamena] - Chadian farmers will now be able to see for themselves proven technologies and innovations (T&I) that meet today's agricultural challenges, at the brand new Agricultural Technology and Innovation Park (PTA) set up by the Institut tchadien de recherche agronomique pour le développement (ITRAD), in N'Djamena.

The N'Djamena PTA is part of theTARSPro project(Technologies et innovations agricoles pour l'accroissement de la résilience des systèmes de production et des exploitations familiales en Afrique de l'Ouest et du Centre), implemented by CORAF with funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The Minister of State, Minister of Agricultural Production and Transformation, Mr Médard LAOUKEIN KOURAYO, officially opened the N'Djamena PTA on January 04, 2023.

On this occasion, the Chadian authority recalled the unwavering commitment of his country's government to working to eliminate hunger in Chad.

"The Transitional Government will work tirelessly to meet the challenge of food insecurity in Chad," said Médard LAOUKEIN KOURAYO, Minister of State, Minister of Agricultural Production and Transformation.

ITRAD open days
In fact, the N'Djamena PTA was officially unveiled to the public at the open days organized by ITRAD from January 04 to 06, 2023, at the headquarters of its General Management.
These days, which were in their first edition, were held under the theme: "Bringing users closer to the Technologies and Innovations developed by agricultural research to ensure food, nutritional and economic security for the Chadian population".
" The aim of the open days is to scale up the technologies and innovations available and likely to boost agricultural production and meet the demands of producers", explained Mr. Yassine DOUDOUA, General Manager of ITRAD, at the opening ceremony.
The event was attended by a number of other personalities, including four former Ministers of Agriculture, the Minister of the Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, the Secretary of State for Agricultural Production and Transformation, and the Secretary of State for National Education and Civic Promotion.
The event was also attended by representatives of funding agencies, notably the Swiss Cooperation, the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the French Development Agency, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the Arab Fund for Development, as well as academics, producers, direct beneficiaries of the project, associations of processors, pupils, students and many other guests.
The initiative is the fruit of a partnership between ITRAD and CORAF through the implementation of two of its projects: TARSPro and the World Bank-funded project to strengthen climate resilience and sustainable agricultural productivity in Chad (ProPAD).
While ProPAD is being implemented solely in Chad, TARSPro is being implemented in four other countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.
