CORAF 2023 Forum: Rendez-Vous in Côte d'Ivoire

Published on: 21/10/2022

"I am honored to announce that Côte d'Ivoire has agreed to host the second edition of the CORAF Forum in 2023.

This was the solemn announcement made by CORAF's Executive Director, Dr Abdou TENKOUANO, at the closing ceremony of the first edition of the CORAF Forum, in Yaoundé on October 21.

The CORAF Forum is a forum for leaders in agricultural research in West and Central Africa (WCA).

Yaoundé, the Cameroonian capital, hosted the very first edition of this Forum, placed under the high patronage of His Excellency, the Prime Minister, Head of Government of Cameroon, and held under the theme "Improving capacities to strengthen resilience in the face of ever-changing challenges and crises affecting agricultural productivity in WCA".

At CORAF, it is customary for events of this scale - such as the General Assembly - to alternate between Central and West Africa as regards the host country," explains CORAF's Executive Director.

So, after the first CORAF Forum in Central Africa, it was only natural that the second should be held in West Africa. And Côte d'Ivoire has agreed to host the next edition of this high-level meeting.

In the wake of World Food Day

In addition, as in 2022, the next edition of the CORAF Forum will be held at the same time of year, a few days after World Food Day.

This strategic positioning enables the initiative, says Dr. TENKOUANO, to "capitalize on the achievements of World Food Day for greater effectiveness".

As a reminder, the first edition of the CORAF Forum was held from October 19 to 21, 2022, while World Food Day 2022 was celebrated on October 16 under the theme: "Leave no one behind".

The CORAF Forum provides a platform for key players in WCA's agricultural sector - researchers, decision-makers, the private sector and farmers' organizations, civil society, donors, etc. - to discuss critical issues relating to the development of agriculture in the sub-region and find solutions to its challenges.

The first edition enabled these leaders to formulate recommendations for government authorities and other stakeholders, focusing on three (03) points: policy on the transformation of agriculture and food systems, agricultural research and development, and private sector investment.
