Food system resilience: agricultural technology park staff receive training in Dakar

Published on: 02/10/2023

In order to ensure effective monitoring, evaluation and communication of the results of Agricultural Technology Parks (ATPs), a regional training workshop was held in Dakar, Senegal, from September 25 to 29, 2023, bringing together 25 participants from countries involved in the PRSA/FSRP, iREACH and TARSPro programs. The main objective was to strengthen the monitoring, evaluation and communication skills of staff responsible for running agricultural technology parks in Benin, Burkina-Faso, Mali, Ghana, Chad, Togo, Senegal and Sierra-Leone.

Agricultural Technology Parks (ATPs): hotbeds of innovation

Participants gained an in-depth understanding of PTA monetization, logical frameworks, performance indicators and digital data collection tools. The workshop also included hands-on training in strategic communication, photography, success story writing and media engagement to increase PTA visibility. Theoretical and practical participative sessions, plenary presentations, interactive exchanges between participants and group work were also carried out.

This workshop aims to ensure effective monitoring, evaluation and communication of ATP results. As a reminder, as part of the PRSA/FSRP, IReach and TARSPro activities, CORAF plans to promote access to and sharing of agricultural technologies. This translates into the creation of agricultural technology parks (ATPs) in the specialization centers and intervention zones of these CORAF initiatives.

PTA Performance Evaluation

In order to measure the impact of PTAs effectively, key performance indicators have been defined, along with an agreed reporting template. These indicators include the number of technologies demonstrated in the ATP, the number of individual and farmer visits to the ATP, and the number of public-private partnerships created. These data are crucial for assessing the effectiveness of ATPs and guiding future decisions.

CORAF is working to ensure that these innovations are scaled up effectively. This means creating employment opportunities for young people and transforming the agricultural industry in the region.
