USAID welcomes CORAF's diversification of partners and institutional reforms

Dakar, April 27, 2021 - The Regional Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in West Africa, Mr. Daniel Moore, has hailed CORAF's progress in diversifying partners and institutional reforms.
"Since the holding of the 12th Ordinary Session of the CORAF General Assembly in April 2018, CORAF has been in a process of transformation that has resulted in a fuller and more diversified portfolio of partnerships," said the USAID Regional Director.
USAID West Africa has been providing vital technical and financial support to CORAF for over a decade. Its most recent financial support was signed in 2017 and consists of supporting CORAF to undertake certain institutional reforms, intensify the large-scale dissemination of technologies and facilitate West African producers' access to seeds.
USAID's current support has enabled CORAF to attract new partners in order to advance its strategic priorities. This is the case of the European Union and Swiss Cooperation.
The Regional Director of USAID West Africa called on CORAF to be vigilant in aligning its interventions with the priorities of regional and national partners, and to better respond to the expectations of populations and strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable.
" This increase in portfolio and partnerships requires CORAF to be vigilant. This will enable CORAF to respond effectively and coherently to the expectations of the population", said Mr. Moore.
" The institutional reforms implemented by the governance bodies are beginning to produce convincing results and have also laid the foundations for CORAF's operational effectiveness."
Scheduled for Wednesday, April 28, 2021, this first part of the CORAF GA is expected to produce the following results:
Approve the state of implementation of the resolutions and recommendations of the 12th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly;
Harmonize CORAF's governance tools and adopt a roadmap for the implementation of the revised texts;
Validate the proposal to support greater integration of CORAF's activities in Central Africa and within the Economic Commission for Central African States (ECCAS), and plan consultative meetings;
Review and adopt the progress report on the mid-term assessment of CORAF's institutional capacity performance and the roadmap for implementing the recommendations;
Approve and present the new Board of Directors.
Following the virtual business meeting, which constitutes the first part of the 13th Ordinary Session of the CORAF General Assembly, a second, face-to-face part is scheduled to take place in the Chadian capital in January 2022, during which updated plans will be adopted to enable the organization to fulfill its mandate, strengthen food and nutrition security and boost prosperity.
