Agriculture's new challenges can be overcome with "innovative technologies" - Dr TENKOUANO
Published on: 07/19/2022
It's no secret today that the agricultural sector is subject to many challenges.
However, the experts recommend that players and stakeholders draw on the fruits of research to meet these challenges.
"Today's agricultural sector faces new challenges, from the emergence of new crop diseases to the consequences of climate change. Nevertheless, these challenges can be overcome through innovative or improved technologies emanating from scientific research", said Dr Abdou TENKOUANO, Executive Director of CORAF.
Dr TEKOUANO was speaking at the opening ceremony of the symposium on the state of agricultural research for development in West and Central Africa.

CORAF - July 2022
The theme of the symposium is "Agricultural Technologies & Innovations: Climate-smart solutions for transforming emergency and post-emergency situations", and it aims to take stock of agricultural research and its achievements in the sub-region, which can be capitalized on to stimulate sustainable agricultural and socio-economic development.
Today, several hundred technologies and innovations have been developed by researchers in West and Central Africa to meet the challenges facing agriculture.
The MITA platform, powered by CORAF, for example, lists over two hundred and forty proven technologies.
The symposium is organized within the framework of the Agricultural Technologies and Innovations for Increasing the Resilience of Production Systems and Family Farms in West and Central Africa(TARSPro) project, a CORAF initiative funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
More than a hundred people are taking part. The end of the symposium, scheduled for Thursday July 21, 2022, will be marked by a session to set up the regional steering committee for the TARSPro project.
