CORAF's 2021 annual work plan and budget focused on pursuing the organization's strategic mission has been approved. This was one of the main outcomes of the 29th Board of Directors meeting, which was recently held by videoconference.
CORAF is currently in the third year of its current Operational Plan (OP) - a program designed to improve food and nutrition security and boost prosperity in West and Central Africa. Each year, the organization agrees on a set of activities designed to contribute to these strategic priorities. Funding is provided by a number of donors, includingUSAID, theEuropean Union, Swiss Cooperation and others. The plan is submitted to the Board of Directors for review and approval.
The current plan was approved in a difficult environment characterized by the COVID-19 pandemic. As in most organizations, COVID-19 disrupted the implementation of the 2020 work. When planning for 2021, CORAF's program designers took into account the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, providing countries with supervisory teams to ensure transparent continuity of program execution.
"What was achieved in 2020 was commendable. 2021 would be just as challenging, but I'd like to call on all of us to step up our work for the people of West and Central Africa who need help the most," said CORAF Board Chair Dr. Angela Moreno from Cape Verde.
CORAF has continued to enjoy the confidence of several donors, most recently theSwiss Agency for International Development (SDC), which sealed a new partnership agreement in the last quarter of 2020.
"I would like to thank the members of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director and Secretariat staff, the donors and all our partners for the work accomplished in 2020 and the confidence they have placed in CORAF," added Dr Angela Moreno.
The 29th Board meeting also approved the Executive Committee's decision of December 01, 2020, to hold CORAF's 13th General Assembly in two phases. Board meetings are also held to review and approve implementation reports, audit reports and status changes. All documents submitted for consideration at this Board meeting were approved.
