The Race for the World Food Prize 2022 is Open

  • Valued at 250,000 USD, the prize is awarded to individuals who have carried out food-related actions with a major impact on the population;
  • Academic or research institutions, private or public organizations and government bodies may nominate individuals ;
  • The deadline for nominations is May 1, 2021.

Nominations for the World Food Prize 2022 are open until May 1, 2021.

Valued at 250,000 USD, "the World Food Prize is the world's largest international award, recognizing the achievements of people who have advanced human development by improving the quality, quantity or access to food around the world", says the World Food Prize Foundation, which is responsible for the initiative. 

As usual, research or teaching institutions, private or public organizations, legal entities or government bodies may nominate individuals they consider eligible for the Award, by submitting a dossier demonstrating their contribution to meeting global food needs and nutritional problems, as well as the impact of this contribution.

To this end, the World Food Prize Foundation is organizing a webinar on March 24, 2021 over a choice of two time slots, namely 1:00 pm Universal Time or 4:00 pm Universal Time, which will inform the informed public and potential nominators, about the nomination process as well as the criteria. From 1987 to 2020, of the 50 recipients of this prestigious prize, there have been seven (07) Africans, including the current President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Nigeria's Akinwumi Adesina, who was awarded it in 2017.
