CORAF is an important organization working to improve food and nutrition security in West Africa. CORAF's recent initiatives are a promising sign of its determination to meet the challenges facing West Africa.

The 18th session of the CORAF STC, held in Dakar

From November 02 to 03, 2022, CORAF's Scientific and Technical Committee held its 18th session at the Executive Secretariat in Dakar, Senegal.

As usual, the overall aim of the meeting was to assess progress made in implementing the work plan for the current year -2022, and to make recommendations to the Board of Directors (BOD) in terms of improving the scientific and technical quality of CORAF's research and development activities.

Over the course of two days, committee members heard reports and presentations on the progress made in implementing current projects and programs, as well as the challenges encountered.

The Committee also took a forward-looking look at plans for 2023, and made recommendations to CORAF's management and directors.

Specifically, the two (02) day meeting enabled the CST :

  • Discuss progress in updating the recommendations of the 17th session;
  • To adopt the CSE report for the period December 2021 to November 2022. 
  • Review CORAF's 2022 Annual Work Plan and Budget (AWPB) and assess the implementation of recommendations;
  • To discuss CORAF's PTBA 2023;
  • to revise the rules of procedure and discuss the modalities for the replacement of members and the chairmanship of the STC; and
  • To discuss strategies for the visibility of CORAF.

Coinciding with the 2022 edition of CORAF's Market for Agricultural Innovations and Technologies (MITA), the 18th session of the CST ended with a tour of the stands.

The members of the CST took the opportunity to congratulate CORAF on this initiative, and encouraged its continuation. 

The STC is one of CORAF's main governance bodies. It meets once a year.

"The mission of the STC is to examine and make recommendations to the Board of Directors (BOD) on the scientific quality and relevance of research activities carried out at sub-regional level, to assist the Executive Secretariat in its functions of organization and scientific coordination, and to evaluate all scientific cooperation activities implemented by CORAF", recalls Dr Emmanuel NJUKWE, Director of Research and Innovation at CORAF.

The CST is made up of twelve (12) members and is currently chaired by Professor Aissatou Yaye DRAME.
