After just over six years at the helm of the Institut national d'études et de recherches agronomiques de la République démocratique du Congo (INERA-RDC), Professor Kankolongo MBUYA is leaving to take up other duties, where he will continue to put his skills at the service of agricultural development.
Professor MBUYA has used his tenure as Director General of INERA-RDC to make a considerable contribution to the advancement of agricultural research and development in this large Central African country with great agricultural potential.
A pillar of the DRC's national agricultural research system, INERA-RDC is a long-standing partner of CORAF, and Professor MBUYA's tenure has helped strengthen this collaboration.
"Thanks to the solid collaboration between CORAF and INERA-RDC, our two organizations have been able to carry out concrete actions, through projects, for the people of the DRC", says Dr. Abdou TENKOUANO, Executive Director of CORAF.
Another highlight of Professor MBUYA's time at the helm of INERA-RDC was his key role in the recent success of the strategic meeting jointly organized by CORAF and INERA-RDC in Kinshasa in November 2021.
The meeting resulted in the adoption by stakeholders of a strategy and roadmap for increasing CORAF's footprint in Central Africa.
"We are grateful to Professor MBUYA, who played a decisive role in the success of the Kinshasa consultations, which led to such satisfactory results," says Dr. TENKOUANO.

Professor MBUYA was Director General of INERA-RDC from December 10, 2015 to April 1, 2022.
He hands over the reins to Professor Jacques N. LUTALADIO, previously the institution's Deputy Managing Director.
A professor of horticulture at the University of Kinshasa, the incoming Director General of INERA-RDC has a wealth of knowledge and experience which, according to Dr. TENKOUANO, will undoubtedly benefit the people of the DRC and the entire sub-region.
"I congratulate Professor Lutaladio, whom I have had the privilege of knowing since his time at FAO, and wish him every success. I am certain that the collaboration between CORAF and INERA-RDC will grow even stronger under his leadership", says CORAF's Executive Director.
"With the new General Manager, we hope to continue the work that has already begun and carry out new projects that will impact the population and help achieve food security and reduce poverty in the DRC."
