Feed the Future Dooleel Ndaw Ñi: increasing inclusion and economic empowerment of young people in Senegal

Published on: 15/05/2024

In its quest for economic and social development, Senegal considers its young people to be key players in its growth. The USAID-funded "Feed the Future Sénégal Dooleel Ndaw Ñi" project is being implemented by a consortium comprising the NGO PDEF, ChildFund and CORAF. The project, funded by USAID to the tune of US$3,000,000 over a 5-year period (October 2023 - September 2028), is positioned as a catalyst for increasing the inclusion and economic empowerment of young people in Senegal, particularly in the Kaolack, Kaffrine and Fatick regions.

The official launch of the project took place on Wednesday, May 08, 2024 at the conference room of the Kaolack Chamber of Commerce. The event was attended by over 150 people, including representatives of USAID, the Senegalese government, local partners, project implementers and NGOs. This mobilization testifies to the commitment and collaboration of all those involved in the success of this ambitious project.

The project focuses on the integration and economic empowerment of young people in Senegal, and aims to strengthen young people's leadership and citizenship skills through the creation of 4-H clubs. With the participation of key players such as the Sine Saloum Elhadj Ibrahima NIASS University (USSEIN), schools, Koranic daaras, youth associations, local authorities, local projects and programs, and other youth structures, the project adopts an inclusive approach to foster positive youth development and encourage community initiatives and living together by integrating environmental, gender, education, health and hygiene dimensions, among others. .

This project is in line with the guidelines of the Senegalese government's national development project on youth employment, focusing on young people to meet the challenges of employment and integration.

CORAF, a research center in the field of agriculture and development in West and Central Africa, adds value to the partnership through its expertise in agricultural and technological innovations, as well as in the efficient integration of women and young people into all development activities, to ensure their economic and social empowerment.

"This project is in line with the new administration's priorities to promote youth employment in Senegal. It is therefore important to collaborate with key development players to ensure the success of this initiative," emphasizes Alyssa Leggoe, USAID's Director in Senegal, who was present at the project launch.

The "Feed the Future Sénégal Dooleel Ndaw Ñi" project represents a significant step towards the empowerment and inclusion of young Senegalese. By investing in young people, Senegal is equipping itself with the tools it needs to ensure a prosperous future for all its citizens.
