Dr Ângela MORENO leaves INIDA to take charge of Água de Rega

Published on: 11/08/2022

The former President of Cape Verde's National Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (INIDA), Dr Ângela Maria P. Barreto da VEIGA MORENO, has stepped down to head the Água de Rega (AdR) company.

AdR is the company awarded the concession to manage, operate and distribute water resources for irrigation in Cape Verde, in accordance with Legislative Decree no. 47/2021 of June 10, 2021.

Dr MORENO took over the reins of AdR at the beginning of August 2022, after eight (08) years at the helm of INIDA.

AdR's new figurehead confides that she will continue to work in agricultural research for development and in connection with Cape Verde's National Agricultural Research System (NARS), to "change lives".

On my own behalf and on behalf of CORAF, I congratulate Dr MORENO on her new position and wish her every success in her new duties. It was a real pleasure to collaborate with her while she was at INIDA, and I am convinced that she leaves a great legacy behind her, including a solid foundation for continued collaboration between CORAF and INIDA",

said CORAF Executive Director Dr Abdou TENKOUANO.

"I look forward to continuing to work with her and her new institution on projects of common interest," he added.

Dr MORENO has been President of the CORAF Board of Directors, since 2018.

As such, CORAF's Executive Director hopes that Dr MORENO's new experience will benefit the organization in many ways.

"Dr MORENO's leadership and vision have been beneficial to CORAF since she became Chairman of the Board. As the challenges of water and irrigation management are very critical and common to most countries in West and Central Africa, we hope to benefit from the new experience Dr MORENO has just begun, at least for the remainder of her term as Chairman of the Board", said CORAF's Executive Director.

"I'm counting on you for the new challenges I'll be taking on from now on," said Dr Moreno.

Dr MORENO has several works and studies to his credit relating to hydrology and water and soil conservation. Here is his latest publication in a major international journal in the United States.

She also sits on the Board of Directors of the West African Scientific Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) in the island state of Cape Verde.
