AUDA-NEPAD renews its partnership with FARA
Published on: 04/10/2019
On September 20, 2019, FARA Executive Director Dr. Yemi Akinbamijo led a team of Secretariat staff who met with the leadership of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA)-NEPAD to discuss the future partnership between the two organizations. At this meeting, FARA sought to establish its role in the context of AUDA's redefined mandate to coordinate and execute priority regional and continental development projects for the accelerated realization of Agenda 2063 - Africa's vision and action plan. AUDA-NEPAD affirmed that FARA will continue to serve as the technical arm for continental agricultural research and innovation.
AUDA-NEPAD and FARA have identified several concrete actions that they will carry out jointly with a view to implementing the commitments made by the AU Heads of State and Government at their session in Malabo in 2014 (Malabo Commitments). These include: (i) integrating the Agenda for Agricultural Science in Africa into national agricultural investment plans and programs; (ii) developing African foresight capacities; and (iii) carrying out prospective studies to improve the planning of the future agricultural and food system in Africa. In particular, prospective studies aim to strengthen planning for the harnessing of the science, technology and innovation needed to enable the continent's agricultural and food system to meet the demands of the future.
