UEMOA-CORAF agreement: stakeholders invited to a regional workshop on review, planning and training in Monitoring & Evaluation

Published on: 07/22/2016

From February 08 to 13, 2016, the various implementation teams of the projects Valorisation des tiges de cotonnier (Gossypium spp) pour la fabrication de panneaux à particules (VATICOPP) and Valorisation des ressources génétiques animales et aquacoles locales dans la zone UEMOA(PROGEVAL) of the UEMOA/CORAF convention met during a workshop in Lomé. The objectives were to build the capacity of implementation teams in results-based monitoring and evaluation, and to review the technical and financial execution of their projects in 2015 in order to adjust planning for 2016.

The first part of the training was provided by Mr Patrice LEUMENI and Mr Sheikh Ahmed Tejan Rogers, respectively in charge of Monitoring and Evaluation for CORAF's WAAPP and MDTF programs.

During these 4 days of training, the following seven sessions were reviewed with case studies based on the VATICOPP and PROGEVAL projects. These included Mastering results-based M&E terminologies; Overview of the RBM life cycle; Results framework, specific objectives, performance indicators; M&E data management; Indicator review and definitions; Data quality assessment; Reporting.

The training enabled participants to improve their knowledge of results-based monitoring and evaluation. A better understanding of the two projects' results frameworks and the finalization of certain tools facilitated the second part of the workshop, which focused on the review and planning of activities for 2016.

The workshop was officially opened at a ceremony featuring two speeches: one by the CORAF/WECARD Livestock and Fisheries Program Manager, and the other by the Director General of the Institut Togolais de Recherches Agronomiques (ITRA).

Dr Hamadé KAGONE, CORAF/WECARD Livestock and Fisheries Program Manager and Focal Point for the CORAF-UEMOA agreement, began by recalling the background to the signing of the agreement between CORAF/WECARD and UEMOA, which later led to two commissioned projects, PROGEVAL and VATICOP.

Dr Bedibètè BONFOH, Director General of the Institut Togolais de la Recherche Agronomique (ITRA), welcomed participants to Lomé, before focusing on the issues addressed by the two projects that were the subject of this training and review workshop.
